THERE seems to be an increase in robbery and violent crime in Bolton recently, also several letters complaining about the poor police response to reported crime. This is all most regrettable.

People should be aware that since 2010 the Tory government, with the help of the Lib Dems for five years, have cut 20% from the police budget.

It's not just the police suffering huge cuts. The Fire and Rescue Service has suffered nearly 30% cuts since 2010 resulting in over 7,000 front line fire fighting jobs being cut.

Huge budget cuts without any system in place to effectively measure the impact of what they're doing are putting lives at risk.

Does the government care about local issues?

It will soon be make your mind up time. Please think carefully where you put your cross.
