I AM writing with my concerns with regard to the recent atrocities in Manchester and London.

In my opinion these events have absolutely nothing to do with the amount of police on our streets. Unfortunately our police don't have the powers they need to deal with the extremists that are responsible.

It seems that every time there is a terrorist incident the authorities say that the terrorist responsible was known to them. When are we in this country going to 'close the door before the horse has bolted'?

The law as it stands means that until these murderers commit an offence the police cannot detain them. The law should be changed that will allow the police and security services to detain Isis sympathisers and those suspected of planning atrocities without charge.

I've no doubt that the same 'do gooders' who now criticise the police would be campaigning for the human rights of those detained.

When are we going to learn?
