RE the letter from Mr Pittock (Bolton News,May 29) I felt I just had to respond.
We have had his incredibly naive and inaccurate bulletins re Western US hatred rammed down our throats for years, on a regular basis.
This western blame game does not stand up to scrutiny, the 'brave Islamic state' are good at killing innocents and fellow Muslims (look at the statistics), they don't need his weak justification. Look around the world, in Pakistan children are murdered in a school, in Sweden a truck driven at a pram, in Nigeria stealing young girls to sell as slaves, genocide against the Yazidi people of Iraq, two days ago a car bomb driven into an ice cream parlour, deliberately targetting children. The West is to blame for all of this? And now, yet again our new horrors in Manchester and London all in the name of Islamic State.
Mr Pittock has lived all his life along with the rest of us under this great Western umbrella of democracy/freedom and equality rightly allowing him to spout his opinions without sanction or fear of reprisal. This great freedom fought for by the blood of our forefathers, by his comments he defiles the memory of all of them.
Show me a better system than this Western democracy/freedom and equality anywhere in this world that I can aspire to, I don't see queues for immigration to any other way of life. Why does he think everyone wants to come here and have done for 100s of years?
If we allow this fantastic way of life to be eroded or diluted in any way we would be sleepwalking into a very dark place indeed and our children and grandchildren would not thank us for that.
