ON July 6, the front page headline was Violated, in large capital letters.

On reading the item, my wife and I were absolutely disgusted.

It concerned a young foreign gentleman of 24 years of age who had the audacity to believe that he had the right to violate and degrade a young mother who, unfortunately, just happened to be taking her two children, one aged three and the other three weeks, through a subway in Kearsley.

Suddenly, for reasons known only to himself, he decided to indecently assault the young mother.

For this, he was unfortunately given a 12-month prison sentence which was suspended for two years.

He had to agree to certain terms, otherwise he would be liable to face a custodial sentence.

Surely this sort of sentence cannot be right. Just how much suffering has this young woman and her children gone through?

Please try to enlighten us because myself and my wife just cannot believe that it can be left there.
