I AM astounded and deeply disappointed by the comments of Yasmin Qureshi regarding the organised and systematic barbarity of child grooming.

Once we cannot name and shame the culprits who have committed these evil deeds, our society is finished.

It is the responsibility of the free press to highlight who they are and only then can we tackle this evil head on.

Perhaps she should pay more attention to informed opinions of people like Nazir Afzal and Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, who acknowledge the roots of the problem.

They and the rest of us only have to read and listen to the media to see overwhelming evidence as to the source of this problem . . . with thanks to Sarah Champion MP, disgracefully fired by Jeremy Corbyn for daring to tell the truth that "the majority of the perpetrators have been British Pakistani men".

MP Yasmin Qureshi weighs in on debate over Labour's Sarah Champion's resignation over child abuse comments

Let's hope and pray that there is no, in Yasmin Alibhai-Brown's words, "hands-off" approach in our area.

May I remind Ms Qureshi that she represents all of the people here in this town, not just a section of the community.

Protection of the most vulnerable must always be the priority.
