AT a time when international attention is focused on the need to reduce the amount of plastics in use, I pose an interesting series of question to Bolton Council.
At the meeting of the council’s environment scrutiny committee, as we talked about householders being encouraged to re-cycle, around the council chamber were countless bottles of water.
The question I asked was why?
What happens to the empty bottles? Are they re-cycled? What is wrong with jugs of tap water which would be both cheaper and better for the environment?
The questions were merely passed to another section of the town hall, not by Labour’s executive member, who I thought was there to answer questions, but by a senior officer.
I await the response with interest.
