I WAS left a little confused after reading in The Bolton News about a letter sent from the three Conservative councillors for the Bradshaw ward to the Regional Post Office Manager.

In it, they point out that the current Post Master at the Bradshaw Post Office will be retiring and that someone else is willing to take over. So far so good.

They then go on to say that they have placed an article in their newsletter/election leaflet regarding the Post Office and they fully back the campaign to keep the branch open.

There is no campaign and the Post Office is not under threat of closure, hence my confusion.

Anti-social behaviour and vandalism committed by young people is on the increase and as we see in the national press, far worse in other parts of the country.

The Tory government's savage cuts to the police budget, to youth services and local councils, must surely have had a major part to play in this dreadful increase.

Have the three councillors also sent a letter to the Prime Minister about these cuts? I suspect not.

For the councillors to imply that the Post Office may be closing when there is clearly no suggestion of this is blatant scaremongering and electioneering of the lowest order.
