CAR sharing is a great way to help save the environment and cash - and a Bolton man is helping make it even simpler to arrange it.
Craig Slater, who grew up in Farnworth, has set up a new car sharing website to help those who are keen to be green to meet like-minded people.
The website, www.isanyonegoingto.com, was set up last month and already has almost 3,500 members.
Reducing our carbon footprint is becoming increasingly important and we launched our Green Heroes competition to find schools, businesses and readers who are doing their bit to tackle the problems of global warming, carbon dioxide emissions and the amount of rubbish we throw away.
Mr Slater, aged 37, and his partner Sonia Hillidge, aged 36, decided to launch the site because they are concerned about global warming.
Mr Slater sees the website as a hobby, while still doing his full-time job in recruitment.
The former Harper Green School pupil said: "I want to try and reduce my carbon footprint and I'm sure there are others who want to do so as well, with it being a hot topic at the moment.
"The talk of a Manchester congestion charge is also something which will encourage people to car share."
The site is split into three sections - business, leisure and students - to help people with similar interests and destinations to meet.
Mr Slater is delighted by the response so far and hopes that the site will become internationally recognised.
It is used by people all over the UK at present and is particularly popular in London and Bristol.
Mr Slater said: "If you are going to a football match or concert, there are bound to be people in your area going to the same thing.
"By car sharing there will be less traffic on the road, it will be easier to park, and you can split the cost of the petrol and it will be helping the environment."
