A LEAFLET will be sent to every home in Bolton and Greater Manchester as consultation on plans for £3 billion in regional transport improvements gets underway.
The leaflet will explain proposals which would see a congestion charge of up to £5 a day on roads into Manchester and also include a new bus and train interchange in Bolton.
The Moor Lane bus terminal would move to land near the Trinity Street train station, probably the surface car park off Great Moor Street.
There would also be a dedicated 18 km bus lane between Bolton and Manchester and more carriages on trains.
The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) is now consulting the public before deciding next month whether to submit a bid for the £3 billion to the Department for Transport.
The Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) bid must include a congestion charging scheme.
Cllr Roger Jones, chairman of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) said the leaflet would be distributed to homes within weeks.
He said: "The leaflet will outline how there could be huge changes in the way we travel to work at peak times.
"If the ideas behind the proposals are achieved, the typical rush hour of clogged roads with stationary cars belching fumes into the air would be a thing of the past."
