A 13-YEAR-OLD girl sparked a huge manhunt for a masked rapist after she invented a sex attack because she was late getting home.
The teenager from Horwich said she had been dragged in to woodland close to Rivington and Blackrod High School and subjected to the ordeal at about midnight on Saturday.
Police sealed off the area where the girl said she had been attacked and launched an investigation costing thousands of pounds and involving forensics experts who were brought in to search for clues.
After being interviewed by specially-trained officers for a second time on Monday, the girl admitted she had concocted the story because she was worried that she would get in trouble with her parents for being late.
Police confirmed that they were no longer investigating but said that the girl would not be punished for wasting police time.
It is understood that she was warned by police officers that she could have faced charges.
The allegations were made initially to the girl's parents after she returned home after midnight on Sunday.
Police were then called and statements were taken from the "victim".
A description of a mixed race man wearing a hooded top and scarf across his face was circulated to the media.
A police spokesman said: "Following investigations in to the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in Rivington, police are no closing their enquiries after in transpired that the allegations were false.
"Officers are happy that no offences have actually taken place and there will be no further action.
"She will not be dealt with and there will be no prosecution or caution against her."

If this girl had named a man for the alleged offence on her, his name would be up in lights all over the news, he would lose his job, his life would be ruined, and he would have a criminal record against his name - which would never be erased even for a false allegation. As has happened in the past, and with this case, the 'victim' has told the truth eventually, and she has gone back to her normal life but if she had lied about a certain male commiting the offence in the first place, his life would still be ruined. A serious offence has been committed here, it is not stealing a bag of sweets, she should be punished for wasting an overstretched police service!

DMorris - as you are a 6th form student at Rivi you will probably find out who this girl is (if you don't already know). Being an ex Rivin pupil I know how quick gossip goes round the school. How would you feel if this girl was accusing you or a friend of such a terrible thing?? Your opinion may be different then
What you have to remember is this... 6 in 10 victims of rape drop the case through fear or due to abuse. I think it rather un-fair for you all to pass such harsh comments when you know very little. And as for the comment made by BOLTON-TILL-I-DIE that states her fellow pupils should slap her, words can't describe how much of stupid thing that is to say.

Trotter wrote:A bit one sided - when I was late in as a youngster, I knew id grt a good hiding for being late in - even if it was 5 mins late - and I had to be in at 9pm, but to concoct a story of rape just isnt normal, did this girl want removing from her parents care?? This is a serious thing to happen. It is the girls fault from crying RAPE of all things - not I forgot the time - or even something lesser like I was Mugged! This case just goes to show that kids these days - are literally that kids with big gobs, mobiles and expensive clothes. Trying to be bigger girls than they actually are acting like adults - but clearly missing the maturity to distinguish between actions and consequences - what a cabbaged thing to do
Take it easy folks, not the girls fault entirely, have the Parents any say in this? why was she allowed out at that time of night? questions should be directed to the parents, too many times irresponsible behaviour is down to the parents who need to be more responsible.

absolute disgrace she should of been charged with wasting police time that would have taught her a lesson. i hope her parents have give her a good hiding, she oviously has a warped mind to concoct such a story at such a young age.

Hang on This silly little **** will not have to go to court just because she hasn`t been in trouble before ???? But do we all not keep reading that the police are under stafted and that they are tied down with paperwork. Yet here we have a silly little cow that claims to have been raped causing the police to spend time and money (MY MONEY) running around like headless chickens doing nothing. Then we have to think of all those women that have been raped in the past and are to scared to come forward and make a complaint well this cow as helped them hasn`t she!!! not even named because they claim she is to young. She should be named for this and just because someone that was a innocent victim may have been questioned by the police even a persons dna may have been taken for nothing (and kept on record) just because she was late home.. I just wonder how she would feel if she was ever get be raped ????

A girl of 13yrs. is still a child, she may think she is grown-up, she may even look grown-up but she is still a child. Some of the previous comments are disgraceful, she was out too late, maybe not for the first time and was terrified about what her parents might say (or do) She treid to get herself out of trouble with this story and made a big mistake. I feel sure she regrets what she did and must be feeling terrible just now. She should not be hounded and bullied and her life ruined. Leave her alone and let her try to put it all behind her.

She is 13! She did a very silly thing and probably regretted it from the word go. Lies are funny things aren't they. One little white one can very easily escalate out of control. I'm sure she has received a severe talking to from the Police. There are some very odd sounding people making comments about a child on here. 'kick her out', 'slap her', 'name and shame her' - what's all that about? She is just a kid - leave her alone . So what if some of OUR money has been used on wasted Police time, I'm sure a hell of a lot more gets wasted on other stuff. I don't know who foots the bill for the police support to carnival parades and the like, but if it's us - what a waste that is!

A Horwich Parent wrote:Above you said she is just a kid leave her alone - however children dont generally say theyve been raped, and to say its a white lie -= is a stretch too far, I understand your need to defend her. Theres a big difference between a carnival parade -and a rape claim. Carnicals are enjoyed by thousands of rate payers - and equally not enjoyed by hundreds of others, however - who got the enjoyment out of this? I feel people in the community - which contains all types of peoples from various walks of life -want value for money. Most 13 yeard olds don't claim theyve been raped. This girl is plain niave - or sexually active. I do however feel its time that this 'story' was removed as it has run its course. There will be enought of a witch hunt where this girl lives - and she will have to live with it all her life - and her parents, friends and family the shame.
