THE getaway car used in a terrifying raid has been found intact.

Masked raiders struck at Lloyds TSB in Market Street, Westhoughton, and stole thousands of pounds yesterday.

The Silver Honda Civic Type-R which the robbers jumped in as they fled the bank was found abandoned in Hall Lee Drive, Westhoughton, this morning after a member of the public spotted it.

It has been taken to a secure lock-up where it will be examined by forensic teams on Monday.

Police said the car was stolen during a robbery in the Golborne area of Wigan on November 9.

At 5pm on Friday as staff were closing the bank two men, armed with a sawn-off shot gun and a machete forced the women back into the branch, pushing one to the floor.

One woman was hit in the face with the handle of the machete and another was held at gunpoint and was forced to open the safe and the cash machine.

Det Sgt Ray Sherlock said: "This was a traumatic experience for the staff who are still in shock.

"We have already had a number of witnesses come forward with useful information and we are keen to hear from anyone else with information."

Anyone with information should contact Bolton CID on 0161 856 5740 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
