CCTV probe in hunt for gun terror boy

By Rob Devey »

DETECTIVES hunting a boy as young as 14 who robbed two women at gun-point are studying CCTV from a nearby subway.

One of the women was also sexually assaulted by the youngster, who pounced in Castle Street on Thursday evening.

It is believed he had followed the women from the subway leading from Churchgate and police are now looking at CCTV images from the tunnel.

But officers had this morning still not received any calls from witnesses and are renewing their appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

They are also calling on anyone who thinks they may know who the boy is, including family and friends, to come forward with their suspicions.

The first robbery happened at 5.30pm after a 23-year-old woman had just got into her car. The boy opened the passenger door, sat down, then pointed a gun to her head, threatening to shoot her if she protested.

He then sexually assaulted her, rifled through her handbag and fled with her purse which contained a small amount of cash.

Detectives are now waiting for the results of forensic tests on the car.

They believe the same boy was responsible for holding a gun to the head of a 23-year-old woman near the same spot just 15 minutes after the first robbery.

This time the offender threw her to the floor as she tried to defend herself and stole her handbag before running off towards Eagle Street.

The victim's handbag and purse were later found discarded nearby by police.

A 47-year-old woman also reported being followed to her car as she walked out of the subway on Thursday evening but she was not confronted.

No gun has been recovered and Detective Constable Paul Reed, of Bolton CID, said: "It is worrying for a boy to be carrying a gun, but then it is worring for anybody to be brandishing a gun and targeting lone women.

"We have all got wives and daughters and I really feel for these women.

"These robberies happened at a time when a number of people would have been leaving work so we are hoping someone will come forward with information."

DC Reed is advising women not to walk through the subway alone and urging people to be vigilant.

But he said all criminals were different and that he could not speculate about whether the boy might strike again.

DC Reed added that police were this weekend conducting high profile patrols in the area to help provide reassurance for the public.

The boy was white, aged 14 to 16, about 5ft 2in tall with pale blue eyes and a pale complexion.

He wore a dark coloured jacket with the hood pulled up, dark tracksuit bottoms and a hat with a white line along the bottom which was partially covered by the hood.

He was clean shaven and spoke with a local accent.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bolton CID on 0161 856 0961 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.

And getting away with them too, no doubt amongst he's friends he's the big Man the Armed Robber. I'm not bothered when that Gun turns out to be fake its Armed Robbery and it's should be seen as serious. The westhoughton lad who got 4 years which means what 2 years ? was on some kinda supervision order when he did the Armed Robbery and most of us would agree he got let off for a second time.

Once convicted he should have scrote tatooed on is forehaed for all to see.

How many more woman to be raped and pillaged?
How many more nights of having to listen to the thugs patrolling the streets, yelling and vandalising cars? How many more old people robbed in their homes?
How many more shops and commercial premises turned over at knife/gunpoint?

These are the kind of stories that have made the news within the last week. In fact its nearly every week now something like the above is happening.

We pay a lot of money in taxes to live and work in this country and yet we have to fear for our own safety not only out on the streets but in our own homes whilst the powers that be sit on their hands and do nothing! They are all to engrossed in thinking up excuses and disorders for these not good scrotes whose parents want sterilising so they can't breed anymore

Ah, the hanging prevents reoffending argument. Difficult to argue against such a simplistic notion excpet to poit out that the death penalty is shown not to be a deterrent and that civilsed societies do not indulge in state sponsored killing."

This is another example of a young person without any moral sense doing what they like and knowing they can get away with it. The liberal consensus has failed and it's about time politicians took a more authoritarian view of law and order.
First repeal the Human Rights Act and make judges subject to the laws of this land as set by our Parliament.
Secondly re-write the sentencing codes to eliminate all sentences that are set for the criminal and their interests and reset them only for the protection of society. It should be assumed that all criminals will re-offend if released.
Thirdly all people such as judges, probation officers and doctors should be made responsible for the subsequent behaviour of their charges. So a reoffender would get jailed and the judge, doctor or anyone else who argued for early release would also get prosecuted.
Sentences would then become lengthy and cruel and have a reputation that would help eliminate the easy appeal that crime seems to have these days.

Lord Lucan, Somewhere says...
6:19pm Sat 19 Jan 08

Well, people you are now waking up to the feminisation of the legal system. Basically it's "let's feel sorry for the criminals who are, after all, victims of a callous society". Beware of words like victim, exclusion, awareness, risk management it usually means that a clueless and malign influence is around.

Get real - most criminals are mentally unhinged, completely or partially irrational and can not be rehabilitated. The best way to stop them is to keep them off the streets which either means eliminating them or locking them up indefinitely. Anything else is vastly ineffective in practice despite what any apologist will tell you. This also reduces the possibility that such bags of bad genes will be able to reproduce criminal clones, brought up on state largesse who then spit in the face of all decent people.

When do you think that someone will have the rondies to do something effective about it?

markd, bolton says...

Drugs are the number one cause of crime today. They are a cancer eating away at society. if we tackle the drugs problem with a zero tolerance attitude to both pushers and takers. We will be paid dividends by a drop in other areas of crime.

So why won't our government do something about it?

Well. In order to tackle the drug problem effectively we would need to stop drugs coming in.
In order to stop drugs coming in we would need to have proper control of our borders.
In order to have proper control of our borders we would need to leave the EU.

In order to tackle the drug problem that fuels so much crime, first it is necessary to cut through the drug bullsh1t.
The number 1 drug of choice in Britain is alcohol. If you don't deal with this the rest is irrelevant and you may as well give up now.
The drug should only be made available in selected outlets like pubs in carefully controlled conditions.
Secondly drinking at home or anywhere else should be discouraged with swinging penalties. Eg if caught drunk on the streets of Bolton all offenders that night should be carted off to say Leeds or some other foreign place, and then sober up there in an outside cage, with no lift home. Inconvenient, uncomfortable with the possibility of losing your job.
Of course random breath tests at work, school and on the road would also help.
A similar approach could be taken with all other drugs which like alcohol should be legal, but controlled.

Of course a government like ours that indulges in expensive foreign wars, huge armaments bills, vastly wasteful PFI projects, etc, etc would need a large revenue stream. If drugs were made legal but controlled half the prison population could be got rid of another big saving. If children were taught say 5 or 6 subjects properly instead the current curriculum badly with reading and writing made mandatory and not optional as in our education system then more big savings could be made.
This government is fat with tax revenue, it doesn't spend it wisely and certainly not effectively so it ends up as you say dependent on alcohol and tobacco taxes. It doesn't have to be like this. And no I'm not a smack head.

The sign was probably put up to encourage children who are under social services that the law will help them if they need their help, ie kids suffering some sort of abuse and are too scared to tell.

If the law protects all child criminals as you think why the hell do we have young offenders institute's? Why do we have youth courts?
Your opinion may be that the sentences given to young offenders are leniant but that isnt down to the police thats down to the judges.

John - Your right about alcohol being a problem. The main problem with alcohol is the binge drinking culture. This has to a great extent been encouraged by an irresponsible drinks industry, which promotes products aimed at getting people loaded in as little time as possible.
Regulation is needed.

Alcohol may fuel drunken yob behaviour but it is not part of organised gang and gun crime and therfore less of a problem than narcotics.

I think John, you may be trying to protect the odd joint you smoke or the line of cocain you do at weekend but I'm sorry ma
