Bus company to probe smoking complaints

A BUS company is investigating a complaint that three drivers were smoking on one of its vehicles.
Smoker Rebecca Hill, aged 16, said she spotted the men lighting up on a bus at Farnworth bus station on Friday.
She said: "It annoyed me to see them doing it because you are not allowed to smoke on buses."
Smoking in work vehicles was outlawed when the ban on lighting up in public places was introduced last year.
Miss Hill, of Daisy Hall Drive, Daisy Hill, had been heading to Bolton library with her friend William Kendall, aged 18.
They were on their bus waiting for it to leave the station at around 2.30pm on Friday, when they spotted the three drivers sitting on a nearby vehicle smoking.
The Vale of Manchester bus company, which owns the vehicle, said it was a crew relief vehicle that staff can use at meal times and can be used for transportation.
Ken Dawson, general manager of Vale of Manchester, said: "It may or may not be used in service.
"However, the rules still apply on this vehicle and they shouldn't have been smoking on it."
The firm says it will investigate the matter and Mr Dawson added: "If it's true then they are not alllowed to do it.
"Our inspector needs to monitor to see if that is what is going on."

You are he only one to mention 'human rights'. It's more about freedom of choice. If we had smoking and non-smoking pubs then EVERYBODY would have the choice of which one to go to.
I'm pleased to know that you accept every law that the government introduces.

Surely if I didn,t smoke & wanted to go in a pub that was a smoking pub, I would have the right to breath clean air?-& isnt that what the bans about?-& vote on it by all means-there are more non smokers than smokers!(& by the way-I DO!

You could go into a 'smoking' pub and breath in 'clean' air with proper ventilation. The majority of publicans and regular drinkers were against the ban.

This Government has introduced over one thousand new laws, including the smoking ban, which has made them so popular that people voted out their local Labour councillors and the London mayor. I don't believe that everybody wants to be controlled in this manner.

I just refuse to try & justify,why I should have the right to make others breath in my smoke! after all, as it is now, I can still smoke if I want too,just not in the company of people who dont. And Smoker Rebecca Hill aged 16- Your bloody stupid!

Police are hopeless so councils/governments bring out new laws to make easy pickings for the police.
Banning drinking in a public place would have been a MUCH more acceptable law!
(Mind you the cops would then have to arrest all the drunken yobbo's making peoples lives a misery so that would never do)

Hi would just like to say that what you are saying is not true.I am not the
spoil sportyou have stated it out to me and it was friend WILL who informed the Bolton evening news NOT ME! and i think it is rather ridiculous that i am getting the blame for this. Yes i was there but i am not to pleased at the way they have made it out to be all me and not my friend. So before you judge me from this article please understand that it wasn't me who was bothered it was my friend and i was the one just dragged in to this whole situation.
