Care worker to be sentenced for OAP road death

A CARE assistant who killed a war veteran while speeding to his next visit is due to be sentenced today.

David Griffin, aged 60, of Primula Street, Astley Bridge, knocked down 81 year-old Harold Watson in Church Street, Westhoughton, just two days before Christmas, 2006.

Mr Watson suffered multiple injuries and died four weeks later in Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Griffin was driving at speeds up to 46 mph in a 30mph zone when his vehicle hit Mr Watson. He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and will appear at Bolton Crown Court today.
