HOW many Looking Back readers can remember the time when Harwood had a precinct and residents were fighting plans to demolish it?

In today's Looking Back photograph we see landlord and landlady Philip and Cheryl Chadwick who ran the Black Swan pub on Harwood Precinct prior to 1993 although our photograph is undated so perhaps readers can help identify the year.

Sad regulars are seen toasting an uncertain future when last orders were called as this was possibly for the final time.

A disappointed regular was councillor Ernie Crook who said he was pleading with precinct owners Metrolands to unveil their plans for the dilapidated precinct.

The Black Swan lease, held for many years by brewers Greenall Whitley, ran out just the day before our photograph was taken.

Landlord Philip Chadwick was moving to the Crofters Pub in Halliwell Road, Bolton.

Rumours were rift that the pub may well be opened again within the following two weeks but Metrolands were keeping quiet about their plans and the firm would not comment on the suggestion.

Perhaps readers can help us with information about Harwood then and now. We would love to hear from you.
