THIS jolly photograph shows two colourful characters going nose to nose at Horwich Carnival.

It was taken by a Bolton Evening News photographer in May 1992 and shows nine-year-old Victoria Cregan (left) and Laura Thompson aged 10 who were having fun at the traditional carnival event.

An amazing number turned out for the carnival — around 12,000 people in total — and they were all in party mood especially as there was glorious sunshine to accompany the day.

It was a two-day extravaganza and the two girls were among many revellers who wore fancy dress costumes to add an extra splash of colour and fun to the grand carnival parade which took place through the streets of Horwich.

The Horwich Carnival has been a hugely popular event in the town for many years and always attracts both spectators and participants.

It is an opportunity for local folk to get together and have fun and is always a very colourful and vibrant affair — and, clearly, the carnival in 1992 was no exception.
