THESE photographs show two different locations in the same district.
The pictures were taken in Heaton, Bolton.
The main photograph was taken in Gilnow Road in Bolton in March 1943.
It shows branches from trees being cut by the Parks Department — with a horse and cart for transport.
Trees in streets were pruned on an annual basis, The Bolton Evening News reported at the time, “so as not to interfere with traffic”, although the traffic would be far lighter then than it is today.
Our other picture was taken in 1955 in Tudor Avenue, Bolton not far from Gilnow Road.
Apparently the trees on one side of Tudor Avenue were usually well filled with nests at this particular time of the year — this was snapped in May.
The area was, we are told, know locally as the rookery.
