THIS rather fun looking photograph was snapped in August 1978 but is all as it seems?

You could be forgiven for thinking this is two old women taking a stroll through Moss Bank Park watched by a group of folk taking a rest on a bench.

But looks can definitely be deceptive.

For this was part of St Peter’s Church August Adventurers’ Week where youngsters aged four to 11 were sent out to track down teenaged organisers who had disguised themselves.

These two “old women” were actually a couple of youths taking part in the challenge.

Apparently, it was all part of a fun event for children in the park.

The youngsters were also treated to stories and games.

Moss Bank Park has always been a popular green space for people of all ages to enjoy in Bolton.

It was formerly a private estate belonging to the Ainsworth family who had long association with Bolton.

The family had used the site for bleaching cotton since the mid 18th century.

It was opened as a public park on June 27, 1928.

The house, used by the Ainsworths as a family home, was demolished in 1951.

Over the years Moss Bank Park has proven to be a very attractive and popular spot for local families to enjoy.

Do you have memories of spending time there?

Perhaps you can recall visiting as a child.
