BROWNIES posed for the camera to show off the fruits of their creativity more than 40 years ago.

The Girlguiding group, based back then at St John’s Methodist Church in Victoria Road, Horwich, created a snowman out of cotton wool for their annual Christmas party.

Pictured with the festive character was Lynne Ollerton, aged 10, and Christine Dawson, aged nine, who both sported Christmas paper crowns.

The girls and their friends had fashioned the eyes, nose and mouth out of crafting materials before dressing the snowman up with a hat with a twig of holly, and a scarf.

The image was snapped on December 13 1972 but it is not believed St John’s Methodist Church hosts a Brownies group any longer although Horwich has several thriving packs.

Brownies is the uniformed group for girls aged between 7 and 10 years old and provides an opportunity for youngsters to learn new skills, make friends and try adventurous and stimulating activities while contributing to their local community.
