EVERYONE enjoys a cup of tea and a cake and that was very much the case for some senior citizens from Little Lever in January 1976.

The group of older people from the village were enjoying some refreshments at their regular get together in the village’s working men’s club, but on this occasion they did so with some musical accompaniment.

Pupils from the nearby Mytham Road County Primary School visited the group and played music and sang songs while they ate cake and drank tea.

And while Christmas may have already passed, the group kept up the festive spirit by pulling a few crackers while they were serenaded.

The photograph was taken by The Bolton News on January 14, 1976 and was used in the following day’s edition.

The renamed Mytham Road Primary School can still be found in Little Lever.

It is not known whether the senior citizens group still remains in the village in the same form and whether cake and tea are still on the menu.
