ANXIOUS mothers made a plea to motorists to stop using an Egerton housing estate as a “race track” and to drive like “human beings”.
This was back in January 1974 and the estate was off Cox Green and Briggs Fold Road where motorists were driving as if at Brands Hatch, claimed the local residents.
They said the thoughtless drivers were making life a “nightmare” for parents with very young children who were in constant danger when playing out in the street.
Here we see the Egerton residents pictured in Barnfield Close which they said was one of the roads used as a racetrack by drivers.
They are, from left, Mrs Carol Davies and her daughter Rebecca, aged 19 months, of Barnfield Close and Mrs Janet Hoare of Barnfield Close.
Do you have memories of living in Egerton?
Has the area changed much over the years?
We would love to hear about the area and your memories of it.
