TODAY’S Looking Back photograph was snapped in August 1977.
It shows stones from the Fox Street entrance of the Old Mechanics’ Institute in Horwich that had been built into a wall in front of the Apprentices’ Training School at British Rail Engineering.
Pictured taking a look at the wall are, from left, Mr James Kearns, maintenance foreman, Mr Geoffrey James who was the works manager, Mrs Christine Johnson from Horwich who was from the local Civic Trust as well as Mr Alex Milner and Mr Eddie Houghton who were responsible for building the wall.
We would love to find out more about this wall and also about the Apprentices’ Training School.
It would also be interesting to hear your memories of the Horwich Mechanics Institute.
