THESE photographs show two different parts of town and we thought you would enjoy seeing them.

When these photographs were first published in the, then, Bolton Evening News, it was to show recent changes in the streets of Bolton town centre.

In the top picture we can see the parking spaces put in place for cars on the south side of Victoria Square.

This was a time when cars and other vehicles were permitted in Bolton town hall square.

Of course there would be far fewer cars owned by local folk in those days.

The lower picture was of newly built bollards at the junction of Trinity Street and Bradshawgate, designed to help pedestrians cross the road in safety.

What struck us about both photographs is how much these areas have changed since the photographs were taken in March 1951.

Many of our readers will remember when Bolton town centre looked like this before pedestrianisation.
