WE thought this photograph was particularly atmospheric and shows a part of town we do not regularly feature.

This is a photograph showing St James’ Church in Daisy Hill although we are not sure which street this is or, indeed, if this street is still standing. Hopefully Daisy Hill residents will be able to help us with this.

Daisy Hill is, of course, a lovely little village on the outskirts of Westhoughton.

No doubt many families in the village would have suffered as much as families in Westhoughton did when the Pretoria Pit Disaster struck.

So many men and boys lost their lives in this area in 1910 that it was almost impossible for any family not to be affected by it.

Do you have relatives who were affected by this dreadful disaster?

Or do you have Daisy Hill memories to share with other readers?

If so, get in touch with Gayle McBain on 01204 537269 or email gayle.mcbain@nqnw.co.uk to share them.
