LAST week’s photograph posed a problem for our readers.
Some thought it was a street in Bromley Cross and others decided it was, most probably, in Halliwell.
What printing this particular photograph proved is that Bolton had many streets that looked or still look very similar to each other — no doubt built around the same time.
But well done to Pat Riding who rang in and suggested the picture was St John’s Street, Kearsley and she was correct.
At the time this photograph was taken, in June 1982, Bolton Council had abandoned plans to demolish the street, saying the 11 houses and one shop could cost between £13,000 and £21,000 each to improve and the value of each house if improved would be only £10,000 to £11,000.
But residents were fighting on and wanted to save their homes.
So what about this week’s photograph, where was this taken?
