THIS cool dude may seem the picture of innocence — but he’s actually a master thief.

Six-year-old Newfoundland Oscar is a real gentle giant; just don’t leave him unattended around food.

Oscar belongs to Carol Stones, a 62-year-old care assistant from Farnworth.

Daughter Becca said: “We got Oscar as a pup from a breeder in Yorkshire. We have always had big dogs but this time had decided to go for a giant breed. In this case he is a gentle giant. He is the most loving and affectionate dog.”

It’s a good job Oscar is so friendly, as he shares the house with another three dogs, as well as two cats.

Becca added: “Oscar is a very cheeky dog who is a fully qualified food thief! He will spot his chance and, before you know it, a six pack of barm cakes, tub of butter or even a full melon can be stolen.

“He likes to wait until he thinks the house is empty and then you can hear him get up and make his way into the kitchen to see what he can pinch.

“Once he realises that someone is on, he will then let the other dogs eat the rest of the food so it looks like they have stolen it, but we all know the real culprit.”
