THIS photograph was taken in March, 1987, in Little Lever.
It was used to illustrate the fact Dovebank residents’ association had chalked up its first successes since it was formed in the January.
Chairman Sean Hornby was said to be pleased that something was finally being done to improve conditions on the estate.
It had been plagued by bad lighting, litter and vandalism and residents had become increasingly concerned.
But the association got Bolton Council to sort out the lighting problem and Norweb was working on restoring lighting in Fourth Avenue, which had been dark for 18 months.
“This is a major achievement and we are all very pleased that at last we have a good story to tell,” said Mr Hornby at the time.
The local authority’s environmental services department accepted responsibility for ginnels on the estate.
Miss Sandra Hurst is pictured with Mr John Leyland and Mrs May Leyland and the sink which had been left outside their homes in Park Road, Little Lever for several weeks.
