THIS picture shows a very familiar scene to most people who live in Bolton.
It is, of course, the junction of Marsden Road and Deansgate in Bolton town centre.
This particular photograph was taken in November 1964 and it seems some street furniture was being put into place.
It is clearly a very busy scene with plenty of workmen getting involved and what looks to be a policeman standing in the centre to direct traffic.
There are a few things that struck us about the picture the first being the Marsden Road Fire Station building the site of which is today, used by various businesses including a restaurant, a dentist and a doctor and flats are built above.
It was built in the 19th century —1897 — and each of the semi circular “bays” we can see on this picture would house a separate fire appliance waiting to go out and tackle a blaze.
We also spotted The White Lion pub on the right of the picture and a sign directing drivers to a free car park in the town centre.
