TODAY many people enjoy a summer break with the family.

Heading off for a holiday or weekend away is not too much of a problem as we have excellent public transport today and even going abroad has become a regular thing.

But back in the day a trip out with work mates or the gang from the pub was a big thing.

Many of the local mills organised not only day trips to Blackpool and Southport but they also organised holidays.

Here we have pictures from the 1970s of workers and pub regulars heading off on holiday.

Workers would head for the seaside with their work mates and enjoy a break with the people they worked alongside.

There would be a designated colleague who would collect all the money and then he or she would be responsible for organising the payment of the cash when the trip or holiday became payable for.

We would love to hear from your if you remember work or pub trips.

With the traditional Bolton Holiday fortnight on its way it would be great to publish your memories. Although largely forgotten today, the holidays, we know, will remain in your memories.
