THIS picture shows a junction in Bolton that will be instantly recognisable to many of our Looking Back readers.
But do you know where it is?
The shape of the road way is just the same today but the shops and businesses we can see here are no longer there.
We can also see a mill chimney that no longer exists.
So this is the junction of Blackburn Road and Belmont Road in Astley Bridge.
There is no pub on the corner today and the mill has gone — would this be Bank Top Mill we wonder?
As we can see from this picture the area was as busy when our photograph was taken as it is today.
This is, and always was, a major route into Bolton from Blackburn and has been for centuries.
If you have memories of Astley Bridge and, in particular, this area we would love to hear from you for a feature on Astley Bridge in a future edition of Looking Back.
