HISTORY was set to repeat itself back in May, 1980, in a planning row at a Turton beauty spot.
Worried residents along an unspoiled stretch of Chapeltown Road were hoping for a happier ending than that of 20 years previously.
In 1961 joiner and builder James Towler won an appeal to build a bungalow opposite the King William Inn despite opposition from councillors and the water authorities.
In 1980 an application was received and rejected for a detached house and garage on land adjacent to the bungalow that caused all the controversy.
