TODAY’S Looking Back photograph shows a scene that we know most of you will immediately recognise.

This familiar town centre street — it is Bridge Street — is much busier in our photograph than it is today simply because traffic was not restricted when our photograph was taken.

The picture was taken just before Christmas in 1960 and as we can see there is a delivery on the right hand side but what is being delivered?

In the 1960s Bolton was filled with small shops and stores, independently owned and selling everything from socks to sofas.

It seems this was a particularly busy day judging by the number of cars parked in Bridge Street — no doubt people were out Christmas shopping.

We would love to know more about the shops in Bridge Street if you can recall them.

It appears there were a number of different shops including the large supermarket on the right hand side which we believe was the Co-op.
