SOME readers will instantly recognise where this photograph was taken but for others it may well be a mystery.
It was taken in October 1976 and the caption on the back of the picture tells us “probably the only folk who will recognise where this picture was taken are those who worked at the Chloride Lorival Works”.
Chloride Lorival was in Little Lever and the view is of the main factory yard looking across the mill lodge towards Lord Street. The “fountain” on the right was, in fact, a cooling system for water which was re-circulated through the firm’s machinery.
The factory was a major employer in Little Lever in the 1970s and we would love to hear from anyone who worked there or recognises this scene. If you have memories of living and working in Little Lever we would love to hear from you.
Just ring 01204 537269 or email gayle.mcbain@nqnw.co.uk and share your Little Lever memories.
We will include them in a future edition of Looking Back — published on a Wednesday.
