DOES anyone remember this hole in the road in Farnworth?
This picture appeared in the Bolton Evening News in September 1967 and shows the scene in Albert Road in the town.
The AA described this as a “desperate situation”.
Apparently heavy traffic jams had been affecting several miles of road on both the Manchester and the Bolton sides of Farnworth.
But the good news for local folk and drivers was that within a week it was expected that the hole would be filled in.
An additional problem was that a 50 yard crack had appeared in the section between Longcauseway and King Street.
Farnworth police were urging motorists to make full use of the diversions that had been put in place.
Bolton-bound drivers were especially advised to use the Buckley Lane diversion.
In 1967 there were far fewer cars on the roads so although this would have created problems it would not have the kind of impact it would today.
