TODAY’S Looking Back photograph was taken in December 1972 but do you recognise where it was snapped?
This was Manningham Road in Deane and shows land which was destined for housing.
A fight was brewing over Bolton Housing Committee’s plan to build 170 homes in Deane Church Clough.
People living in what were described as the “hillside homes” overlooking the site of the proposed development below St Mary’s Church, Deane, said they would oppose the project all the way.
They said that the lower areas of the clough were damp and totally unsuitable for the purpose.
This was 45 years ago and we were wondering which houses were built on this site, assuming the planning permission was granted.
We know that our readers will be able to help us locate this estate and what was built there.
There is far less green space in and around Bolton today as much of it has been used for housing and other developments.
This particular area is extremely built up today.
