THIS photograph will bring back memories for mothers who brought babies home from hospital in the 1950s and 1960s.
It was a time when fathers were not permitted at the birth of their babies and mothers remained in hospital for a week.
This particular photograph was taken outside Townleys Hospital — or Bolton General Hospital — although we do not have a date for it.
Babies were carried to the door by nursing staff who then handed them over to their proud parents outside the hospital doors — once the nursing staff had done their duty of caring for them.
How proud do the parents look in this picture?
It would be fantastic if we could find out who the parents were and who this baby was.
This was a time when the Matron ran the hospital ward and her word was law.
