THESE two photographs show Nelson Square in Bolton town centre but taken at very different times.

What we do not know is when the pictures were taken but perhaps our readers can help narrow it down.

The top picture was obviously taken the earliest judging by the street furniture including the old gas lamps.

Does anyone know what the business Watson and Watson was?

There is a little shop on the right hand side but we are not sure what it was, perhaps someone can enlighten us?

Looking at the sign on the top of the building it is possible it was a tailor’s shop.

Now we move on to the lower photograph which was taken some decades later we suggest.

Here we see the scene from the opposite angle with the Pack Horse Hotel on the left where the tailor’s shop was in the other image.

At the time the older picture was taken the war memorial had not been built so that helps us date it.
