THIS photograph shows a part of town that that many of us are very familiar with.

It shows a very popular car park under construction but do you recognise which one it is?

This is the Octagon Car Park when it was being built in Howell Croft South in the town centre back in June 1986.

The Octagon Theatre itself was built well before this — it is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

What we were struggling to recall is what was on this site before it became a car park. Perhaps you can help us by letting us know.

This area of town is changing beyond all recognition currently as the new interchange is under construction not too far away.

With Newport Street also being refurbished as part of the gateway into the centre of town, it is hoped the changes will help to bring shoppers back to the centre.

By the late eighties far more people were using their own vehicles to head into town than ever before and there was a need for increased parking provision.
