THIS picture shows a scene that some of our readers may recognise . . . but the location may surprise others.
The men walking down the road with their horse and cart are in Stitch-mi-Lane, Harwood.
They are heading down the cobbled road with a milk ‘float’. We don’t have a date for the photograph but it is clearly many decades ago.
The hedgerow which we can see on the right was torn up to make room for a footpath.
We have featured one or two pictures of Harwood in recent weeks and as always it provides a topic for debate.
The debate seems to surround the names of the roads, as there are a number of rather confusing ones in the Harwood area.
So does anyone know from where the name Stitch-mi-Lane originates?
Along with such roads as Ruins Lane and Hardy Mill Road it got us thinking and debating here in the office.
Was there a Hardy Mill in the road? May be the local residents worked there. But Ruins Lane has got us puzzled.
