THIS photograph shows a view some of our readers will recognise but others will find hard to place.
The shot is of Chorley Road in Wingates and as you can see from the sign on the left, it is looking towards Manchester.
The picture was taken in November 1938 and what surprised us most is the number of cars and other vehicles on the road.
This was a time when few people owned cars yet the scene is a fairly busy one.
It was shortly before war was declared and the little boy standing on the right hand side would have no knowledge yet of the horrors that were to unfold and the changes that were to take place.
