OUR stories about The Lamplighter restaurant brought back memories for many of our older readers.

An eating place is set to be brought back to what was The Market Hall where the Lamplighter used to be.

Mrs Elaine Williamson has an amusing anecdote she wanted to share with other Looking Back readers.

“I have just read your article on The Lamplighter restaurant and it did bring back a memory of eating there years ago.

“At the time you could book a package which combined a three course meal and a ticket for a play at the Octagon,” she explains.

Elaine and her companion opted for a meal after the play.

Plan to reopen historic Lamplighter restaurant at The Vaults, Bolton

“We arrived after the play ready for our lovely meal.

“As it was quite late the restaurant had started to empty. We had our starters and mains and by this time everyone had left,” she adds.

After a short delay the waitress appeared wearing her coat and with her handbag over her shoulders.

“She then asked us if we wanted to order a dessert. As you can imagine this made us feel slightly awkward and politely declined her offer.

“She even escorted us out and switched the lights out as we left.

“We have never been thrown out of a restaurant before. We did see the funny side and always dined there earlier after that,” she says.
