THIS photograph shows a very familiar part of Bolton town centre, but it looks very different today.

For anyone struggling to recognise where this picture was taken it is the corner of Newport Street and Great Moor Street . . . but before Newport Street became the shopping street we know today. If you look carefully at the picture you can see the route the Newport Street shops would later take.

But just look at how busy this part of town was back when the photograph was taken — we do not have a date for it, but judging by the vehicles it was many decades ago.

We can see Timothy Whites on the right hand side, which later became Boots; we featured this famous pharmacy in yesterday’s Looking Back with memories of one of its workers.

At this point in time vehicles could travel freely around the town centre.

We would love to hear from readers who worked for long lost businesses in Bolton.
