TODAY’S old photograph shows a familiar area of Bolton town centre but this spot looks very different today.

Here we see Great Moor Street at the junction with Blackhorse Street back in February 1969.

Although this is obviously when the road was being constructed and the car park built on the right hand side we can see a very familiar building ahead of the two pedestrians.

It is, of course, Ashburner Street Market which has changed very little in the years since this picture was taken. It is hard now to imagine that this part of town has ever looked any different at all.

But there will be many readers who will be able to recall the road being built and a time when the area around the outdoor market looked very different.

Do you have memories of this part of town?

Can you remember when Ashburner Street market in the 1960s?
