HERE we have Market Street in Bolton town centre pictured in the 1960s — although we do not have the exact date it was taken.

The picture shows the street before it was pedestrianised and traffic was banned.

The photograph was taken from the Deansgate end of the street looking towards what was, for a long time, Boots the Chemist but at this time was Timothy White’s and more recently was the sadly closed BHS.

There are many individual shops along Market Street and a plethora of people visiting them including women wearing hats as was the fashion in the sixties.

The other picture below it shows two women taking a look at the latest television sets in a shop in Market Street.

Again we do not have an exact date for the photograph but suspect it was taken in the 1960s.

Does anyone know which shop this was?
