THESE two old photographs show areas of Doffcocker some of you may well recognise.

The large picture is of Chorley Old Road before its widening in 1931.

The view is towards Horwich taken from just past the ring road.

On the left is the Colliers Arms (the landlord was William Gleave at the time) and on the right in 1993 would be the Johnson Fold estate.

The smaller picture shows families enjoying ice skating on Doffcocker Lodge.

This is not a great idea as very dangerous but obviously much enjoyed by these people taking part in the impromptu skating session.

Sadly we do not have a date for the picture but it was clearly taken many decades ago judging by the clothing worn by the skaters. Although some of the skaters have their own boots others are slipping around in shoes.
