WITH all the recent changes to the design of coins and notes we use we thought we would have a look at banking in Bolton over the years.
Probably the biggest shift came in 1970 with decimalisation when the UK said farewell to pounds, shillings and pence in favour decimal currency.
To prepare for the change banks held events, such as coffee mornings, pictured above at the Bolton Trustee Savings Bank, to educate customers.
The same year there was excitement for children at the bank as they tried out one of the first cash dispensers.
We may have lost the use of £1 notes in 1984, replacing them with coins, but in 1960 people were still using the paper currency with its latest design.
