LAST week’s picture was recognised by many of our readers.
Stephen Ashcroft — who is rarely wrong — correctly pointed out that the photograph showed Pikes Lane Primary School.
The school later made way for the health centre which now occupies the spot.
Anne Lockett explains it was: “Pikes Lane junior school was in Deane Road and I attended there in the early fifties.
“At the rear was a nursery for the under five-year-olds.”
Also correct was Carol Waldram and Asif Patel who tells us that he also went to the school and now owns the Gibraltar Rock pub next door which has been converted into a Spar.
“You can just see that in the background,” he says.
Philip Sharrock and Jean Smith also had the right answer.
