THESE two photographs show the same scene but in pictures taken decades apart.

The larger picture was taken by a “Tillotsons Newspapers Limited” photographer in 1969 and the smaller picture in 1985.

Both show Trinity Street in Bolton town centre.

The older picture was taken when wooden screens were removed from the Trinity Street road bridge and pedestrians and motorists were able to see, what was then the new road, taking shape.

The concrete base is now visible according to our caption to the picture.

In 1985 the dual carriageway bridge had considerably changed the whole scene.

This route is very busy today and used by people heading for the station and also drivers making their way to the A666 St Peters Way.
