A COUPLE of photographs here from the 1980s showing councillors is Westhoughton getting their hands dirty to help local folk.
The top imagine is of Councillor Peter Woodcock, left, who was campaigning in 1984 to rescue the Westhoughton milestone in Bolton Road which had been buried during World War Two to fox invading forces.
Here we see Counc Woodcock with local resident Cyril Pilkington.
The other picture was taken in 1982.
It shows Westhoughton Councillor Peter Finch, centre right, getting involved in a clean up campaign at the entrance to Hall Lee Clough in Westhoughton.
The area was transformed by people getting together with the council parks and recreation department and the Manpower Services Commission to tidy up in the area.
