STAR Wars, Harry Potter and Indiana Jones will be taking centre stage at the Victoria Hall when the music of the movies will be brought to life.

They are some of the most recognisable opening bars in cinema history, and in some cases the themes have become as iconic as the films themselves, thanks to the work of acclaimed composer John Williams.

It takes a good orchestra to take on his work and on Saturday, January 30, Bolton Symphony Orchestra will be doing just that as it hosts its first concert of the season, Films and Flags.

The iconic music from the world's most famous movies will be brought to life by the orchestra in Bolton for one night only.

The performance, which will feature music from the likes of Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Harry Potter, will also see Chris Wormald lifting the baton with Bolton Symphony for the very first time.

Mr Wormald, a founder member of the orchestra and first principal horn, is best-known for his award-winning 26 years at Smithills School and has conducted orchestras, choirs, brass bands and wind bands all over the world.

He said: "The genius of John Williams is if you think of one of his themes you can picture the film, if you think of the film you think of the theme. It doesn't matter if it's ET, Star Wars, Harry Potter, you know John WIlliams' work.

"He is the number one film composer of all time and we are very excited to be showcasing the music.

"It was quite fortuitous, I don't think anyone knew Star Wars was coming out in December, the programme music was picked well over a year ago

"Bolton does not often get to see an orchestra, the Halle doesn't come, the BBC doesn't come. It's rare for Bolton to see the symphony orchestra in its own town and play music made for a symphony orchestra.

"This is a big thrill for me and the orchestra. It should be a really, really top quality and fun night."

Mr Wormald's debut will see Bolton Symphony also bringing together both British and American orchestral pieces, including the patriotic American march The Stars and Stripes Forever by composer John Philip Sousa and Proms favourite Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance.

"This is all about entertainment," Mr Wormald added.

"The concert is free for under 19s so all you've got to do is get out of the house, come down, watch a couple of hours and go away and think 'wow I didn't expect that!'

"It's there on your doorstep and I would love everyone to come along."
